Guy Mannering; or, The Astrologer is the second of the Waverley novels by Walter Scott, published anonymously. According to an introduction that Scott wrote, he had originally intended to write a story of the supernatural, but changed his mind soon after starting.
Rob Roy is probably set, the year of the first Jacobite rising, and the social and economic background to that event are an important element in the novel, though it is not treated directly. The depiction of Rob Roy bears little relation to the historical figure: "there are two Rob Roys.
